Our Start
In early 2008, on the high school football field in Holyoke, Massachusetts,
24 women set out to change football history!
Just Another Day
To most people, that day in January was just another cold winter day. But a small group of determined women knew better. They knew that day would be a turning point.
What I Saw
As I cast my eyes over the group, my heart swelled with pride. I saw Mothers, Daughters, Sisters, Wives, Women of different race, color and creed, from all walks of life, from age 18 to over 50, full of passion and the drive to make something great.
Who Were These Women?
Starting with that very first practice, they would set aside the challenges of their daily lives and commit to something bigger than themselves. These weren't just any women, you see. These were the women of the Holyoke Hurricanes,
the brand new full-contact, full-tackle football team of Western Massachusetts.
"Women playing full-tackle football?"
When our players introduce themselves to members of the Holyoke community, that's usually the first reaction. Right now, most people don't know that pro and semi-pro women's football even exists!
.
It's really becoming popular
The popularity of women's football is growing at a rapid pace. The Independent Women's Football League (IWFL), one of two leagues in the US, was founded in 2000 by a group of women dedicated to making women's professional football a household name. Currently, over 30 teams and 1000 women make up the IWFL, including the Holyoke Hurricanes (a tier 2 semi-pro team).
A Secret Wish?
Here's what you might not know: many women secretly wish for the opportunity to play full-contact football. Ask a Hurricane, and she'll tell you one of two things. "I've always dreamed of playing football" or "As soon as I found out I could play football, I jumped at the chance!"
A Sponsor's Dream
When the Hurricanes tell potential sponsors who they are and what they're all about, time and time again they say; "It's incredible what you're doing here; I believe in you, Count me IN."

To our valued players and sponsors:
Since our inception in 2007 we have made great strides in promoting women's football here in Massachusetts. Although it hasn't been easy it certainly has been a rewarding experience. Just ask any of our players and sponsors.
To continue this effort we welcome your financial help. As players fulfilling a dream it certainly is a small price to pay when you consider the perks involved. We've setup personal and commercial plans to hopefully fit all budgets. Choose the one that's right for you.
